Bergerac
& Duras
A
chilled bottle of rosé seems perfect for every occasion.
The Cave d'Eymet offers a choice of Bergerac and Duras rosés
from €4.50 a bottle. My coup de coeur this week is "Perle
de Rose" from Serge Gazziola at
Chateau Seignoret Les Tours. At € 5.40 a bottle, this
is a lovely fruity rosé with raspberries and ripe cherries
that just linger on.
The
Cave has an interesting selection of red wines from Bergerac and
Duras, as well as other regions of France. My coup de coeur this
week is a 2003 Cotes de Bergerac, Les Hauts de Fontette
from Roland Tatard at Clos le Joncal
at 7.50 euros. A full bodied, complex wine with a lot of dark
fruit, soft tannins and a long memorable finish. Great with barbecues.
Fancy
some sparkling wines? If you like rosé, I have an excellent
methode traditionnelle from Andrew Gordon at Chateau La Grande
Manyne at 8.00 Euros. Wonderful aperitif. Or if you want to
really spoil yourself, a very elegant rosé champagne from
Bruno Paillard at 36.00 euro. My
coup de coeur this week is my Grand Cru Classé champagne
from Louvois, Guy de Chassey.
I discovered this many years ago whilst living in Germany and
at €20.70 a bottle, excellent value.
The
Cave's choice of white wines feature the best of Bergerac and
Duras, as well as Chablis, Sancerre, Graves, and a pouilly fumé
by Didier Dageneau which has to be
my coup de coeur of my white wines. A wine for a very special
occasion which needs to be appreciated and, for me, enjoyed on
its own without food. It's called Silex and it's very difficult
to find and costs 69.00 euro. My all time favourite is Cuvée
de Conti, from Luc de Conti at Tour
des Gendres. Soft and fruity with a well balanced acidity.
Lots of apricots, a touch of creme brulee it's a wine that will
please everybody and only 6.50 euros a bottle.
Cave d'Eymet
prides itself on a selection of top class Bergerac and Duras wines
as well as interesting wines from other areas of France, the result
of many evenings tasting the wines of local producers and getting
to know the personality behind the wine!
The Cave d'Eymet
is situated in the Place Gambetta at Eymet and open Monday through
to Sunday during the summer.
