« Pour ma gueule »
« For my own pleasure ».

The countryside is illuminated by autumn sun, golden, gentle and warm. Leaves are falling, nights are drawing in, chilly evenings, migrating birds, roaring fires, roasted chestnuts, savoury cèpes, morning mist, shotguns piercing the dawn air; hunters – pheasants – palombe ……………………..what better way to welcome the new season than with some wines that I personally enjoy so much – I want to keep them to myself – “pour ma gueule”!

Domaine Laffont, “Hecate”, Madiran 2006

One of my favourite ‘roaring fire’ treats – it has everything – structure, fruit, body, balance, length. The perfect match with wild boar or venison.
Complex aromas and flavours of garrigue, fresh herbs, fennel, thyme, leather, chocolate, wild raspberries, cassis, blackberries and a touch of juicy Madagascar vanilla. Hecate is youthful and elegant with savoury, firm tannins.
Incredibly long fresh finish with lingering flavours of cassis, vanilla and some eucalyptus.

* Hecate was a Greek goddess who had power over the moon, the earth and the Underworld. She preferred the Underworld. At night she would roam the earth with the spirits of the dead as her companions and wherever she went people heard the barking of dogs and the howling of wolves.

Astore, Masseria, Salento Italy 2006
From the sunny heel of Italy, Astore remains a firm favourite, with its unusual combination of grape varieties : 50% Aglianico and 50% Petit Verdot.
Intense, dark ruby colour. ‘Gourmet’ black fruit aromas , cassis, blackberries, ripe cherries, mocha, with hints of cinnamon and ground black pepper. Dry, with soft, ripe tannins. Full bodied with intense flavours of dark fruits, coffee, and liquorice. Elegance and finesse, yet body and power. Lingering ‘more-ish’ finish!

Carminé, Chateau de la Colline, AOC Bergerac 2005
Probably the best Bergerac red !
Enticing aromas of redcurrants, liquorice, vanilla, laurel, and chocolate,
Dry, medium bodied with velvety tannins. Long and elegant across the palate, with a succulent velvety mouth-feel. Long finish with core flavours of black fruits and dark minty chocolate.

Irresistible!
